Ouch. That wasn’t exactly the plan, was it?
After a dominant Game 1, the Boston Celtics walked into Game 2 looking to take a commanding lead. Instead, the Philadelphia 76ers played spoiler, leaving TD Garden with a 111-97 win and a tied series.
If you’re feeling a little “Green with envy” over Philly’s shooting last night, you aren’t alone. Here is the quick, easy breakdown of what happened and why we shouldn’t panic (yet).

1. The Rookie Wall (That We Hit)
Nobody told Sixers rookie VJ Edgecombe he was supposed to be nervous. He exploded for 30 points, slicing through the Celtics’ defense like it was a preseason scrimmage. Boston’s perimeter defense struggled to stay in front of him, and once he got hot, the rim looked like an ocean.
2. Live by the 3, Die by the… 76ers?
The Celtics’ defense leaned heavily on “drop coverage” last night, which is basically a fancy way of saying they gave Philly’s shooters a bit too much breathing room. The result? The Sixers shot 50% from beyond the arc. In the modern NBA, you just can’t win when the other team is throwing fireballs from deep.
3. The Jaylen Brown Carry Job
Jaylen Brown was an absolute beast, putting up 36 points and trying his best to drag the team to a win. But basketball is a team sport, and while Jaylen was cooking, the rest of the supporting cast struggled to find their rhythm. We need that “Celtics Depth” back for Game 3!
The Silver Lining: The series is tied 1-1. This team has been consistent all year, and with Jayson Tatum finding his footing after his return, there’s no reason to think they won’t punch back in Philadelphia.
What do you think, C’s fans? Is it time to change the defensive scheme, or was this just a “fluke” shooting night for Philly? Let us know in the comments!
