We knew Jason Momoa was a beast, but we didn’t know he was green!
The jungle just got a lot more crowded. In one of the wildest casting moves for the upcoming Street Fighter movie (hitting theaters October 16, 2026), our favorite Aquaman and Dune star is trading his trident for some serious electricity. Jason Momoa has officially stepped into the role of the Brazilian beast, Blanka, and fans are already losing it.
Who is Blanka?
For those who didn’t grow up pumping quarters into arcade machines, Blanka (real name Jimmy) is one of the most iconic “World Warriors” from the original games.
- The Origin: After surviving a plane crash in the Brazilian rainforest as a child, he mutated into a feral, green-skinned defender of the jungle.
- The Powers: He is famous for his “Rolling Attack” and his ability to generate high-voltage electricity from his skin to shock anyone who gets too close.
Why Jason Momoa is the Perfect Fit
Momoa isn’t just taking the role for a paycheck—he’s a genuine fan! He recently revealed that Street Fighter is one of the only video games he’s ever played.
“There’s no one better to play Blanka, so that’s why I’m doing it,” Momoa toldScreenRant. “We’ll do what the audience would like to see—practical, CG—we’re gonna do our best.”
Since the movie is set in 1993, expect to see a version of Blanka that honors his classic Street Fighter II look—vibrant orange hair, green skin, and those signature metal anklets.
What to Watch For in the Trailer
If you blink, you’ll miss him! In the first teaser trailer, look closely at the 2:31 mark. You’ll catch a glimpse of a mutated, very green Blanka looking like a savage force of nature. Critics are already saying the Street Fighter trailer looks spectacular, and Momoa’s transformation is a big reason why.
